The Chinese government and producers pay a great deal of attention to toy safety and quality (xinhua news)?
I live in China. They seem to pay a great deal of attention just to hocking up phlegm, picking between toes at restaurant, and digging for ‘nose gold.’

Anyone know any quality toys you can make by using common household items?
We are opening a animal rescue center and we need to know some toys that aren’t expensive but from household items.
I’ve found that expensive cat toys are a waste of money, as mine have always preferred to play with things they found lying around the home. Our female cat loves to play fetch with twisty cable ties shaped into a circle. Ping pong balls, paper scrunched into a ball, empty cotton reels or bottle corks are cheap and fun to play with.
All cats enjoy jumping in and out of cardboard boxes, and you can add a few layers of shredded newspaper in the bottom and hide a few cat treats or lightweight toys inside. Alternatively cut holes in the side of the box large enough for them to climb through, and attach lightweight toys on a piece of string just above the hole, so that they can grab for them. Sheets of corrugated cardboard also make excellent scratchers too.
You can make a fishing rod toy by tying a light weight toy or some feathers onto the end of a piece of string and then attaching the other end to a short bamboo pole. Take some old socks, stuff them with scrunched up newspaper or soft material and stitch the top closed – these make good toys for cats to practice playfighting with. Babies socks stuffed with catnip are another option.
One shop bought toy which I can highly recommend are pop-up play cubes. They are the cheapest cat toy I have ever bought and they provide my two cats with hours of fun. I’ve also given them as gifts to cat owning friends and they’ve proved popular with cats of all ages.

Hope some of these suggestions help. Good luck with the rescue centre, hope it’s a success.

Does anyone know of a good quality rope chew toy for a Border Collie that won’t shred?
We had one that was supposed to be good quality but she was choking on the pieces that came off.
I think it was made by Hartz.
She loves them & it seems to be the only toy that she will bother with.
I’ve even thought of making one & if anyone has made one …what was the best fabric to use?
Kelli L…we rescued our dog from a shelter & we have tried numerous toys (all of good quality) & other than playing soccer with us…she needs a good tug toy.
I should have added that she loves to tug & it’s not so much the chewing that she needs.
Thanks Folks…I appreciate this!
In my experience I dedicated "shredder" can tear up anything. One thing that has worked for me is the heavy rubber Kongs that I fill with small treats, etc. My dogs spend a lot of time trying to free the treats through the hole. Make sure whatever you get of this variety has a hole in both ends to avoid a vacuum which could cause injury to your dog’s tongue.
Rokenbok CenterScape
http://rokenbok.com/
The design of CenterScape is simplistic despite the sheer mass and density. The build allows multiple interactions among vehicles creating a very efficient system.
What’s really unique is how the build gives the impression of many underground levels. The monorail goes from above to underground with just a single S beam.

==========What is Rokenbok?==========
Rokenbok construction lets children build their own ideas, and Rokenbok machines are so much fun because they work so well. The two together create endless, special playtimes for children and their parents. Each building set or remote control machine can be enjoyed alone, or as part of an ever-growing world with unlimited play and educational potential.
Winner of more than 50 toy awards, Rokenbok is a superb investment that will engage the whole family, even when the youngest child is only three years old. In fact, parents (and grandparents) love playing with Rokenbok almost as much as their kids.
Rokenbok construction is different, because you make real working buildings that interact with Rokenbok machines. You can follow included step-by-step instructions, or it’s easy to invent your own worlds; conveyor and chute systems, strong bridges, interactive railyards, even a whole working airport. The idea is to build fun interactions, and then have even more fun operating your vehicles to get the job done. That’s why we say, “When the building is done, the fun has just begun.”
Rokenbok remote control machines are tough, real-working equipment. They are built for rough play, crashes, and spills. These are not ordinary toys, but precise and very rugged little robots. Every machine is carefully designed to work with all the others to create fun interactions. A single ROK Star Controller can control every machine in your fleet, and multiple controllers let the whole family play at the same time. There are lots of hidden features, like auto-hitching, horns and sirens. These machines are smart, too. They won’t interfere with each other, so you can add as many ROK Star machines and controllers as you want to your Rokenbok world.
Creating a construction system that is fun for the whole family is a sensible idea. It brings together the educational benefits of construction play and child/parent interaction. Our goal is to create those playtimes where fun and education overlap. Rokenbok is a legacy Quality Toy system that your whole family can enjoy for many years, and there is a good chance you’ll be handing it down to the next generation of young parents and builders.

Toy Box: A Great Place to Keep All the Toys
Toy Boxes have been around as long as there have been toys. Toy boxes were created out the need to have a functional container to store a child’s toys in. A place was needed to organize and store toys in to keep them neatly tucked away and out of harms way.
Earlier toy boxes were really just wooden crates or boxes that were rectangular or square in shape. A toy box today can come in all shapes, sizes, and colors although most are still a rectangular shape. A toy box can be made of wood, plastic or material. It can be made of any style or design. It can double as a piece of furniture like a bench where a child can sit and read a book. The lid of the toy box can provide a flat surface where they can place a game board or make their favorite projects.
A toy box can be simple in design with only one color or it can have your child’s favorite television character painted on it. They can also be hand painted family heirlooms. Any type of container that stores children’s toys can be considered a toy box. Since toy boxes are made for little people they are usually very sturdy and made of good quality. They can vary greatly in price depending on the style and material they are made of. Some toy boxes are made so they can be stackable and store easily and some are made to be part of a room’s design.
Nothing lights up a child’s face brighter than walking into a room and spotting a toy box, they just love to dig inside and explore all the different treasures a toy box can hold. Of course getting them to put all the toys back inside they toy box once they are done playing with them can sometimes prose a challenge. There are some preventative measures you can take to make this less of a problem.
First of all, you can do everything in your power to make the toy box special. One idea is to give it as a Christmas present. Wrap some presents up and put them inside the box. Then, wrap up the box and put it under the Christmas tree. Your child will love opening the box and finding the presents, and then opening each one. You can prompt the child to put the toys into the toy box until all the wrapping paper is disposed of so that they will not be thrown away. The child will see the logic of that.
Another way to make a toy box special is to take your child on a shopping trip to buy the toy box of their dreams. Go through catalogs or go online with your child to get ideas before you actually do your shopping. Even small children like to have a say in the decoration of their rooms. They are more likely to keep them clean when they have pride in the part they played putting it together. A toy box can be a happy addition to a child’s world.

How can Chinese make good quality toys that are safe and accepted by others(not because they are cheap)?
can anyone from Canada and the U.S. give some suggestions??
In my opinion it will never happen. The workers in China make a meagre wage that no western person would ever work for.
What I find amusing is that the Chinese and Taiwanese have been making toys for western countries since the late sixties.
I played with alot of toys made by those countries as did millions and millions of other people my age. The chemicals and paint that they used then was probably alot more toxic then what they use presently. I am fine, as is my generation. Basically, I feel that too much is being made of this. I’d be more concerned with what is in food we digest rather then a rattle that a child might chew on for 5 seconds.
